Conservation and sustainability is a major focus in the winelands

A number of the WWF Conservation Champions celebrated Cape Wine by inviting a number of the international trade to Backsberg on Monday 10 Sept, to enjoy a delicious foraged breakfast in the beautiful vineyards, prepared by Gregory Henderson, who is the chef at Forage at Wildekrans in Bot River.
The Champions presenting their wines at the breakfast were Backsberg, Cederberg, Lourensford, Cloof, Wildekrans, Gabrielskloof and Vondeling, who each have a unique focus - wildlife, carbon neutrality, alien vegetation removal, foraging, leopard conservation, fynbos conservation, renewal energy and working with virgin soil.

The winelands are awash with importers, restaurateurs, buyers, agents, distributors and WOSA International Market managers this week, all of whom are here for Cape Wine.
Our group were lucky enough to have a most glorious day, starting out at a chilly 6 degrees but by 10.30am in the vineyards it was already a gloriously warm 20 degrees!
Views across the Paarl valley, vineyards and to the far flung snow-capped mountains were stunning.

Look out for the Protea & Sugarbird insignia, which indicates the winery is a Conservation Champion - thus achieving a higher than 70% score for their IPW (Integrated Production of Wine), amongst many other achievements.
