Jacques Viljoen, has the choice of two Sauvignon Blanc vineyards side by side and a neighbouring block of Semillon. Vineyards are planted on south and south westerly slopes. Being high on the hills, these vineyards derive full benefit of the cooling breezes from the sea which ameliorate the hot summer days and allow for a longer ripening period, thus great flavour in the grapes. Great flavour and aromatic concentration are the hallmark of a fine Sauvignon Blanc and there is no shortage of these characteristics on the lofty southern slopes of the Kuils River hills. Grapes were picked at various stages of ripening to provide us a broader spectrum of flavours to work with at blending. A small percentage of Semillon was used as a blending partner. The Semillon gives a beautiful gooseberry weight and oiliness to the palate, also attributing amazing greener aromas to the nose. An extended period, 5 months in all, of post-fermentation lees contact lends mid-palate weight and a creamy texture.
It looks like
Bottled under screw cap in a Burgundy shaped bottle with a predominantly white label. In the glass the wine is clear and gem bright with a lime green tinge in colour.
It smells like
Green and tropical fruit. Fig leaves, cape gooseberry.
It tastes like
Full of flavour, guava, ripe white figs, grapefruit and sweet lime in the aftertaste. Perfect balance of fruit, acidity, mouthfeel and aftertaste.
It’s good with
