The Lanzerac Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 was awarded the prestigious Gran d’Or Medal (equivalent to a Double Gold) while Gold Medals were awarded to the Mrs English 2014 and Merlot 2014, respectively. A silver medal was awarded to the Chardonnay 2015.
The Michelangelo International Wine & Spirit Awards gives local wines the opportunity of being judged by an international panel of wine experts. International judges are hand-picked and serve on the panel by invitation only, making it one of South Africa’s most prestigious annual wine competitions.
“We’re thrilled with this latest accolade as it is testament to the hard work, dedication and passion the whole team put in to create these superb wines,” says Cellar Master, Wynand Lategan. He describes the Gran d’Or winning Cabernet Sauvignon as a classic, full-bodied wine ready to be enjoyed now but with great ageing potential.
Staying true to its Stellenbosch heritage the grapes for all Lanzerac wines were sourced from several different blocks in the Jonkershoek Valley. The passion and dedication that goes into tending Lanzerac’s vineyards is thanks to Lanzerac Viticulturist, Danie Malherbe. “The Jonkershoek terroir plays a very important role in creating the distinct wines that Lanzerac has become known for”, says Danie. “Our vineyard practices are all aimed at achieving the perfect balance between healthy vines and low yields in order to produce the best quality wines possible. The recent awards from Michelangelo are testament to this philosophy.”
