Pinotage is famously South African

3 October 2016  -  DeWaal Wines

On Saturday 8 October we are celebrating the birth and roots of Pinotage across the globe.

De Waal Wines is honoured to be strongly associated with this local grape variety.  Winemaker CT de Waal made history when he made the first Pinotage wine in South Africa in 1941. This led to the planting of the famous Top of the Hill Pinotage Vineyard in 1950, the oldest existing Pinotage vineyard in the world.

Experience the special charm and character of this historic farm on International Pinotage day!  Join our popular Top of the Hill Fun Walk on 8 October, hosted by owner Pieter de Waal. With just over 2 km to the Top of the Hill vineyard and back, it is the ideal opportunity to explore the scenic Stellenbosch Kloof valley. You also get to taste the magnificent Top of the Hill Pinotage right there in the vineyards!

The Walk includes a tasting on the Terrace, as well as a hand-picked selection of lovely local cheese and preserves, with a glass of De Waal wine, all for R195,00 per person.

For those who prefer to lazy out on this day and take it easy, we are offering a complimentary tasting of our Pinotage 2012 at the Tasting Room.
