Asara's Pinotage Rosé wins Award of Excellence

4 September 2018  -  Asara Wine Estate and Hotel

There was happy news for Asara on Thursday when our Vineyard Collection Pinotage Rosé 2018 received an ‘Award of Excellence’, and was chosen as one of three top Pinotage Rosés in the country, at the Perold / ABSA Pinotage Rosé Competition organised by the Pinotage Association.

Asara Cellar Master Johan Joubert and Assistant Winemaker Janette van Lill were at the awards ceremony in Stellenbosch, and toasted the news with renowned ‘Pinotage King’ Beyers Truter.

Estate Manager Pete Gottgens says: “We’re delighted with this achievement - well done to Johan, Janette and the whole winemaking team. We’ve worked hard to create a special Pinotage Rosé at Asara that is distinctly and uniquely South African, but that also reflects the best qualities of a classical Rosé.”

Asara’s Pinotage Rosé is made in an elegant, dry, Provençal-style, and offers vibrant, Pinotage-fruit aromas, with a fresh, zesty, lingering finish on the palate. The grapes are grown on a single block on the estate, crafted on Duplex soils, which provides berries that ripen early, at lower sugar levels. This enables the team to harvest at a natural high acidity and contributes to the vibrant, bright-fruit Pinotage freshness of the wine.
