Platter Five Star Ratings for Villiera Premium MCCs and M├ęthode Cap Classique of the Year

7 November 2018  -  Villiera Wines

The annual John Platter ratings are arguably the most anticipated South African wine ratings each year, with Five Star ratings regarded an esteemed accomplishment and tribute to the careful creation of a wine. The maximum five star rating is reserved only for South African Classics and wines scoring 95 points or more.

Villiera have attained two Five Star John Platter ratings in the 2019 guide for their Villiera Monro Brut 2012 and the private label MCC - Woolworths Vintage Reserve Brut 2012, out of only three Cap Classiques receiving 5 star ratings.  Additionally, the Villiera Monro Brut 2012 is listed in the ‘Wines of the Year’ which reflects the highest-scoring Five Star wine in its category.

The 5-Star rated Villiera Monro Brut 2012 bears a Grier family name and is Villiera’s Prestige Cuvee. ‘Achieving a Five Star rating for our flagship Cap Classique is an accomplishment we are very proud of as it recognises the craftsmanship we put into this flagship MCC, from our environmentally-friendly vineyard practices to the finesse in the winemaking process’, says Jeff Grier, Villiera Cellarmaster. ‘Also, these 5-Star ratings heighten awareness of the distinct quality of our super-premium Cap Classiques, enhancing our brand perception.’

Other accolades achieved this year for the 2012 Monro Brut include an IWSC Gold Outstanding Award and a 94-rating in the Tim Atkins South African Special Report for 2018, suggesting its potential as a noteworthy vintage for Villiera Cap Classique.

Villiera are recognised as pioneers in the Cap Classique category, amongst others, but it is their pursuit of excellence and consistency over the past 3 decades that has earned them award-winning status.
