Our award-winning Kleine Zalze Family Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2017

22 November 2019  -  Kleine Zalze Wines

Sauvignon Blanc is a green-skinned grape variety that originates from the Bordeaux region of France. The grape most likely gets its name from the French words savage ("wild") and blanc ("white") due to its early origins as an indigenous grape in South West France.

Sauvignon Blanc is planted in many of the world's wine regions, producing a crisp, dry, and refreshing white varietal wine. Depending on the climate, the flavour can range from aggressively grassy to sweetly tropical. In cooler climates, the grape has a tendency to produce wines with noticeable acidity and "green flavours" of grass, green bell peppers and nettles with some tropical fruit (such as passion fruit) and floral (such as elderflower) notes.

In warmer climates, it can develop more tropical fruit notes but risk losing a lot of aromatics from over-ripeness, leaving only slight grapefruit and tree fruit (such as peach) notes. The Kleine Zalze Family Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2017 is crafted from grapes that originate from 3 South African wine regions (Stellenbosch, Durbanville and Darling).

The wine received a 4½ star from the Platter’s Guide 2018, Double Gold medal at the Veritas competition in 2018, Gold medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2018, Gold medal at the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon Blanc 2018 to name a few.

Winemaker's Note

Lively and herbaceous with crisp layers of fruit. Intense palate with tropical and green elements. A serious wine with a long future. Will reward careful cellaring for the next 5 years.
