Delheim 80 years

6 March 2020  -  Delheim Wine Estate

Celebrating eighty years of Sustainable winemaking.

2020 Harvest
Coming from what was a very challenging 2019 vintage, the vineyards were put to sleep with plenty of water supply. Winter 2019 provided a very good and again much needed rainy season for the Stellenbosch wine lands. Yields are looking good for this coming season and we kicked off harvest with the Pinotage grapes for our Rose on the 20th of January.

Delheim's 80th Anniversary honours the life of SA wine pioneer Spatz Sperling
Delheim Estate has released a once-off and super exclusive Cape Blend that celebrates the life of the late Spatz Sperling. Named Iconoclast, this wine from the 2012 vintage is a tribute to the South African wine pioneer and his fearless challenge of conventional wisdoms.

Single varietal Cabernet Sauvignon is back
In 2016 we were fortunate enough to have great yields in our older vineyard blocks which allowed us to once again produce a straight Cabernet Sauvignon, albeit a very small amount. As the younger blocks become more mature the Cabernet Sauvignon will go from strength to strength proving once again why Simonsberg Stellenbosch is the king of Cabernet Sauvignon and even more so Delheim.

Delheim’s oldest single vineyard block turns 35 years old
Our block of Riesling planted in 1985 delivers one of the most exceptional Noble Late harvest Wines in South Africa - The Delheim Edelspatz. This is also the first Riesling vineyard to be registered as part of the Old Vine Project. With the right weather conditions and vineyard site combined, these ideal conditions resulted in the growth of botyritis. Our 2019 vintage is now available and remains one of the country’s top dessert wines.
