Avontuur Estate July 2020 Newsletter

3 July 2020  -  Avontuur Estate

July newsletter of Avontuur Estate.

In memory of Cobie
With the heaviest of hearts we share the news of the sudden passing of our beloved Cobie van Oort. Our prayers go out to her husband Bjorn and all relations. Avontuur has lost a dedicated, caring, cheerful and all-round wonderful person.

Cobie brought so much wisdom and value to Avontuur in the 18 years she was involved. Her wine and media knowledge, professionalism and remarkable articulation were just some of her attributes that helped make Avontuur what it is today. She initiated many successful ideas and wine events and along with Bjorn remains the brains behind the fantastic Cabernet Franc Carnival. Cobie was also the instrument behind keeping many informed of Avontuur news including this monthly newsletter. So we dedicate this edition to our beloved Cobie. You will be sorely missed.

Cobie's favourite on special
In honour of Cobie we have decided to offer her favourite red wine - The Baccarat - on special. Her comment on the new vintage (2014) was simply, ''this wine is superb!'' Lovely red plum, light herbal notes and smooth finish. Enjoy with red meat dishes, roast veggies, cheese boards or your favourite sundown snacks like biltong and nuts. Her experience palate always gave us great assurance so be assured you won't go wrong with this excellent wine. Visit our Tasting Room or click here for the Special 20% off Baccarat 2014.

Fabulous food returns
Your mouth-watering wishes to indulge in delightful dishes from Avontuur Restaurant are coming true. We are delighted to tell you that our restaurant is opening its doors again for sit down dining from Wednesday the 8th of July.

The lovely weekend takeaway menu will also still be running so don't forget to get your orders in by Thursday each week. What a great chance to make use of our wecome back gift special. Open from 9am Wednesdays to Sundays every week serving breakfast and lunch. Delectable blackboard style menu. Please contact Zunia on 083 508 1525 for bookings or takeaways.

Restaurant gift special
As regulations still do not permit alcohol consumption on site you can still buy to take home. So as an extra welcome gift we will give each restaurant patron a R100 discount voucher per case of wine to use at our cellar door (tasting room) during this month. T's & C's apply.

Var continues to impress
Sheer excitement and elation over the past weekend as we watched Avontuur bred Rivarine win the Grade 1 Computaform Sprint and Vardy coming a good second in the Grade 1 Gold Challenge and looking all the more ready for the Vodacom Durban July.

Ther speedy sons of Var add to his fantastic record of 11 Grade  winners. The former, out of star mare River Jetez (co-owned by Avontuur and Mr & Mrs. Amm), also has his younger full-sister Delta Queen looking fired up for the weekend racing ahead. Read more on our website.

National yearling sales set
The National Yearlings Sales are set for the 31st of July to the 1st of August at the TBA Sales complex, Germiston. The industry awaits final guideliness but for now viewing will be possible from the 24th of July.

In the meantime read more on our website for photos, pedigrees and commentary of each of our yearlings. Can you spot the next champion in the making?

Foaling season is nigh
Our majestic mares have got a month or so left of gestation and we look forward to all the new arrivals from the beginning of August. Yearling Sales and Foaling season at the same time - that's a first!
