Eco Initiatives:
Delaire Graff Estate has its own greenhouse for the sustainable production of vegetables that are used in the estate's kitchens. They also bottle their own mineral water on the estate, which is used in the restaurants. Waste water is recycled and reused in the gardens.
Special care has been taken to minimise electrical consumption and save water. Natural renewable materials like
stone and wood features have been used throughout.
Local horticulturist Keith Kirsten, a multiple Gold medal finalist at the Chelsea Flower Show, designed and landscaped the estate gardens to soothe the senses and compliment the surrounding natural environment. Indigenous and naturalised exotic plants and flowers create a grounded yet opulent setting. Milkwood, Yellowwood, Sneezewood, Wild Olive and African Coral Trees share the landscape with flowering shrubs like Hibiscus, Rose and Frangipani.
In 2008 Laurence Graff, Chairman of Graff Diamonds, set up F.A.C.E.T. (For Africa's Children Every Time). The aim of the charity is to raise funds for the education, health and wellbeing of the children of Africa from where Graff sources many of its beautiful stones ( The first Graff Leadership Centre is operating in Lesotho. The centre provides an Afrocentred library and training facilities for children, youth and adults in a multitude of programs, including pre-employment skills. The building also hosts a hostel for 50 young girls in a leadership program to develop peer leaders in their villages. A further centre is being developed in South Africa.
FACET has recently collaborated with the Pebbles Project to launch the Graff Mobile Learning Centers. The custom-designed vehicles are ‘Mobile Learning Centres,’ packed with educational resources, computers, books, games and DVDs, which give the children much-needed access to, and assistance with, education.
