Kleine Zalze Restaurant Specials & Harvest News

5 March 2021  -  Kleine Zalze

The days are getting noticeably shorter and the evenings much cooler, signaling the arrival of autumn. It is also the time of harvest at Kleine Zalze when we have most of our white wines safely tucked away in the cellar and the focus shifts to red grapes.

If you are interested in what is happening behind the scenes in the cellar and vineyards, you can follow our harvest progress and updates on our social media pages.

With the more severe COVID restrictions lifted, our tasting room is as busy as ever and the restaurant is buzzing with visitors enjoying the last warm days and evenings to dine on the terrace. Our much talked about, award winning Project Z wines are now available to purchase from the tasting room at Kleine Zalze. We have also been very busy with online and virtual tasting here and abroad. The next virtual tasting, this time for the Maties Wine Club in Gauteng is scheduled for the 18th of March 2021.

Summer Specials and Live Music at The Restaurant

With the restaurant back to almost normal trading, we have introduced a couple of delicious specials to our menu. Currently, we are offering a sirloin steak with Café de Paris butter and frites served with a glass of 2017 Vineyard Selection Shiraz for R185 and Mussels and frites served with a glass of Cellar Selection Cinsault Rose for R170.

Keeping in the spirit of Harvest 2021, the bakery team whipped up some delectable “mosbolletjies” and guests can also taste the must at the restaurant and be part of the harvest festivities.

To make the most of the lovely Stellenbosch evenings and the incredible ambiance on our terrace, we are introducing live music one evening a month. The first music evening will be Saturday the 27th of March 2021 - make sure you add the date to your diary!

In Full Swing - Harvest Update

We are at the beginning of March already and ready to “get into” the reds in a significant way! The cool weather in the lead-up to harvest continued into the harvest period, except for the last day of February! This resulted in the harvest progressing at an even and steady pace which has allowed us all the time we needed to give each parcel of fruit coming in the utmost care.

We are delighted with the quality of the fruit that has arrived at the winery so far, with some of the old vine Chenin blanc parcels showing exceptional promise. From what we are seeing and tasting in the vineyards the red grape harvest is showing wonderful potential. The uneven ripening, observed earlier in the season, evened out due to the moderate weather so we do not foresee any significant obstacles in bringing in the rest of the harvest.

New Releases - Family Reserve

We will be releasing the following new vintages of our Family Reserve Wines on the 2nd of April:
  • Chenin blanc 2019 (Platter 5*)
  • Sauvignon blanc 2019 (Platter 5*)
  • Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 (Platter 5*)
  • Shiraz 2017 (Platter 4.5*)

You can purchase these stunning wines from the tasting room or by sending an e-mail to sales@kleinezalze.co.za or online through our website shop.

Till next month, all the best
The Team @ Kleine Zalze
