Rust en Vrede is steeped in heritage and tradition, a historic family farm with a proud legacy of fine wines. The Engelbrecht family, custodians of this magnificent property, have been making full bodied red wines under the Rust en Vrede name since the 70s. Jannie Engelbrecht’s idea to blend Syrah with the classic Bordeaux varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot was revolutionary at the time, and inspired other producers on the Helderberg to follow suit. Our Estate blend remains a market leader, both locally and internationally. But Rust en Vrede is about so much more than wine. It is about family, friends, sharing good food and wine, sharing the beautiful setting that we’re blessed with. Historic buildings preserved for their unique charm and character. Rolling gardens landscaped by Jannie Engelbrecht, who had a vision that his son, Jean, has fully realised, and continues to refine so that the legacy can be continued by the next generation.
